1st Update

September and October has been full of firsts for Hill Fire as Tyler, our trainer, works to turn our one-ton toddler to a world class trotter. From his first time putting on equipment to his first time in the shower stall after a jog, everything is new to Hill Fire. Right now is all about patience, consistency and familiarity. This month Hill Fire was broke (horseman term for he won’t jump when you put equipment on him anymore) and has worked his way to jogging 3 miles a day. At this time, the focus in training is on discipline and not speed. It is imperative that Hill Fire learns to stay calm on the track, especially around the turns.

After speaking with Tyler, our trainer, Hill Fire seems to be a natural so far. The downside for Tyler is that he is very aggressive in the barn without a sedative (and one time even tried to get a little frisky with Tyler). After talking with some farms and other horseman, there was a decision made to turn Hill Fire into a gelding which is the same fate as his two older brothers from Missing An Angel. A gelded horse is much calmer than a non-gelded.

If you are interested in watching Hill Fire train, you are more than welcome. Currently Tyler typically trains Hill Fire in the mid afternoon between 2:30-3:30 as most of the older horses are done for the day and the track is less crowded at that time to allow Hill Fire not to have distractions or a chance to get spooked with all the commotion. If that changes I can let everyone know.
